Heat cool down Warriors

The Vernon Heat brushed back the Kelowna Warriors 10-8 in Midget girls fastball.

The Vernon Royal Canadian Legion #25 Heat brushed back the Kelowna Warriors 10-8 in Midget girls fastball action Tuesday night at Grahame Park.

Heat pitcher Shelby Munk and catcher Mykaila Head combined to tag a runner out at home for the second out in the first inning. Munk recorded a strikeout for the third out.

Dallyce Edwards started Vernon’s half of the inning with a grounder past third base. Head followed with a two-run single and the Heat got the maximum five runs from birthday girl Lexie Edwards, Stefani Anderson, Dallyce Edwards, Munk and Keara Crandlemire with no outs.

Kelowna was held to one run in the second inning with Munk throwing to Crandlemire at first for the opening out and shortstop Anderson tossing to Crandlemire for the final two outs.

Vernon, who are coached by Tamara Dumont,  went scoreless in the inning and shutdown the Warriors in the top of the third before Anderson singled and scored along with Munk.

In the fourth inning, Kelowna racked up five runs and Vernon got one, leaving it 7-7. Dallyce Edwards cracked a two-out single to centre field for the Heat.

Vernon held Kelowna to one run in the fifth and then Head drove a ball to shortstop for an RBI, tying the game 8-8. Anderson ripped a hit to short for the winning RBI and Dallyce Edwards smashed the ball to second base. Megan Vadnais, Head and Anderson all scored in the inning.
