A Peninsula athlete brought home a three-medal haul from this year’s B.C. Summer Games held in Surrey July 19-22.

Alexa Bryant, 13, won two gold medals in the relay freestyle and medley swimming events and bronze in the 100 m freestyle event.

Bryant, who swims with Island Swimming and lives in North Saanich, said the games were a great way for her to expand her competition horizon.

“The games were amazing and had a great atmosphere,” she said. “Any other big event like this I can go to I will because it’s great experience.”

Bryant completed Grade 8 at Bayside middle school in June and will attend Stelly’s secondary in September. She is now finished her competitive season and will resume training in the fall.

Bryant competed for Zone 6 (Vancouver Island) during the games, which secured the top spot in the medal standings with 38 gold, 32 silver and 32 bronze for a total of 102 medals over the three days.

The B.C. Games cauldron will be lit again in 2014 in Mission for the B.C. Winter Games and in Nanaimo for the B.C. Summer Games.
