Kelowna’s Danielle Hennig helped Canada’s national women’s field hockey squad to a solid fourth-place showing at the 2017 Pan American Cup in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
The 19th world-ranked Canadians reached the bronze medal game where they gave the No. 4-ranked Americans all they could handle before eventually losing 2-1.
Canada had tied the U.S. earlier in the tournament in pool play, breaking the Americans’ 26-game winning streak.
Hennig, 26, a defender and one of the veterans on the Canadian roster, had 132 caps heading into the tournament. A graduate of KSS and the Owls’ field hockey program, Hennig played her first international match in 2010.
The Canadian women’s team will now focus its attention on the 2018 Commonwealth Games next April in Queensland, Australia.
