Six North Okanagan high schools participated in a season-opening North Zone exhibition golf tournament at Spalumcheen Golf and Country Club Thursday afternoon.
Seaton Secondary’s Mac Gourdine topped the field in the sunny conditions, shooting a 5-over-par 77.
Gourdine edged Seth Blundell of Vernon Secondary by one shot.
Dawson Chase of Kal Secondary was third at 81.
Salmon Arm Golf and Country Club will host the North Zone finals.
n Golfers from Kamloops and Kelowna flip-flopped positions atop the leaderboard at the season opening Zone 2 Junior Golf Tour events in Osoyoos and Oliver.
Terry Cousineau from The Dunes in Kamloops won the opening event at Osoyoos Golf Club’s Park Meadows course, firing a 2-over-par 74 to edge Daniel Polischuk of Kelowna’s The Harvest Club by one shot.
Polischuk won Sunday’s stop at Nk’Mip Canyon Desert Golf Course, shooting 3-over 75 to beat Cousineau and McKenna Lesiuk of the Kelowna Golf Club by two shots.
Six North Okanagan golfers took part in both events.
George Wilkins of Predator Ridge shot 77 in Osoyoos and 78 at Nk’Mip to finish on top of the B Flight (15-16-year-olds) both days (he was tied with Jackson Coates of Penticton at Nk’Mip).
In the A Flight in Osoyoos (17-18), Parker Wadsworth of Spallumcheen had the best North Okanagan score, finishing 16th overall at 82.
Taylor Scott of the Vernon Golf Club shot a 113.
Braeden Cooper finished three shots back of Wilkins in the B Flight with an 8-over 80. Dexter Weiten of Vernon shot an 87.
Ryan Vest, competing in the C Flight (14 and under, plus all girls) shot an 87.
Vest ended up in the top-10 overall in Oliver, firing a 79 to finish second in the C Flight, one back of Kyle Mayner of the Kelowna club.
Wadsworth also fired a 79, good for 11th overall.
Weiten (83) and Cooper (84) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the B Flight and were in the top-25 overall.
Scott improved by 17 shots and fired a 96 Sunday in Oliver.
The tour resumes this weekend with stops in Summerland Saturday and Penticton Sunday.
The Vernon Golf and Country Club will host the tour on Saturday, April 30, and the tour will play Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club on Saturday, May 7.
