Oak Bay High’s girls rugby squad is at Reynolds Friday, with the local team taking on host Reynolds and Claremont. Come Monday, games are at Belmont with Oak Bay’s senior girls taking on the hosts and Edward Milne Community School. All games begin at 3 p.m. Oak Bay High boys are next in action April 8.
The University of Victoria men’s rugby squad will match up against Vancouver’s Capilano RFC this Saturday at Wallace Field with play opening at 2:30 p.m.
The Vikes currently sit in first place in the CDI Premier Table with 43 points and an 8-2-2 record, while the Capilanos are third with 38 points (8-4). UBC is in second place, three points behind the Vikes, while James Bay Athletics Association is in fourth place with 35 points.
UVic’s Centennial Stadium is host to the Pacific Athletics Track and Field Club’s second of two introductory practices this Sunday for youth age 10 to 15. Come out and try out a variety of activities, especially long jump and sprinting, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Centennial Stadium in UVic.
The Vancouver Island Ladies Field Hockey League will be holding their finals this weekend at the UVic field hockey turf. Facing off for the Division 2 title at 10 a.m. Saturday will be the Sailors and Cardinals, while Div. 3’s Ravens and Kestrels take the field at noon. Div. 1 competitors Mariners and Lynx I hit the pitch at 2 p.m.
UVic’s women’s rowers will hit the water at Elk Lake Saturday and Sunday for Dualing Over a Grand – a regatta that has rowers battling for a first-place prize of $1,000. For more information check govikesgo.com.
More than 560 synchronized swimmers, coaches and judges from across Canada will make a splash at Commonwealth Place through this Saturday, during Synchro Canada’s 2015 Canadian Qualifier Championships. A total of 60 athletes from British Columbia will be taking part in these championships.
The Canadian Qualifier Championships are an opportunity for competitors to qualify for the final competitions of the year. Athletes of the junior and senior age groups will be looking to earn a ticket to the Shiseido Canadian Open Championships, which will be held April 28 to May 3 in Toronto.
Senior high school badminton athletes are also hitting the courts in the coming week, with Oak Bay challenging cross-town rivals Claremont.
