Former Highlands resident Josh Reaume padded his racing resume last weekend in Dover, Delaware.
The 23-year-old rookie driver finished 25th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Buckle Up 200 on Saturday at Dover Speedway, five places better than his inaugural race on the second-level pro stock car racing series.
Reaume, who is trying to secure a regular ride for the series, placed 30th back on April 25 driving for the Rick Ware Racing team. He drove the JGL Racing Dodge this time, starting 33rd and moving up eight spots through the field. He was eight laps down on the leaders when he took the checkered flag.
The finish garnered Reaume 19 points and moved him up to 39th place in the Nationwide standings, up 11 spots from his first race.
The Nationwide Series is peppered with some top NASCAR drivers – Saturday’s race was won by veteran Kyle Busch, one of six Sprint Cup regulars who finished ahead of Reaume on the day – who cannot take points in the series. Another top 25 finish would likely see Reaume jump another few spots in the standings.
Reaume’s next race is looking to be June 27 at Kentucky Speedway in either a JLG Dodge or a Rick Ware Racing Chevrolet Camaro.
