Terrace runners can kick off the new year with a group Resolution Run on Jan. 1, the first of its kind in Terrace.
The New Year’s Resolution Fun Run starts at the Chill ice cream shop on the millennium trail, and distances can very from 1K up to 17K for the most ambitious.
“Newcomers welcome!” wrote organizer Joe Pelletier about the Resolution run. “Run as far as you want! 1km, 2km, 5km, or, if you are crazy like me, join me for a 17km run to kick off 2017!”
Pelletier, dubbed the charity runner because of the marathons he’s run for various causes, says the run is geared for people of all fitness levels.
He got the idea of a new years run from other communities, and is eager to encourage anyone with an interest in running.
“It’s not a race, it’s just a fun run,” he said, adding that just wants to encourage anyone to come out.
“I realize some people haven’t been running for a while, and I’m trying to get them back into the lifestyle,” he said. “This is just making an opportunity for them to resolve to be more active or to be outdoors more or whatever their resolution is.”
The new years run builds on the momentum of a drop-in group that kicked off in November and runs on Sundays.
Pelletier said there are 7-8 regulars and a handful of others that come and go, and it has been a lot of fun swapping stories with runners of all levels and ages.
