The H&L Glass Chilipeppers lost a 7-6 heartbreaker to Enderby in the final of the U14 District girls fastball Sunday in West Kelowna.

The H&L Glass Chilipeppers lost a 7-6 heartbreaker to Enderby in the final of the U14 District girls fastball playdowns Sunday in West Kelowna.

Ellen Campbell and Lindsay Crandlemire handled the pitching in the see-saw affair. Despite the loss, Vernon was granted a wildcard berth into the U14 provincials, July 4-6, in Ridge Meadows.

The Chilipeppers finished second in preliminary action, getting a bye into the semifinals, where they mercied Penticton 11-4. Earlier, Vernon beat Summerland 10-6, lost 8-7 to Penticton, grounded Kelowna 13-5, and iced West Kelowna 11-5.

The Peppers got solid contributions throughout the lineup with several clutch hits from Emma Carter, Erin Baker, Kaylee Crandlemire, Jill Pipke and Alana Baker. Aly Carter made two great catches in the win over Summerland. Abby Williamson was a wall all tourney, doing most of the catching and making a superb play at the plate in the semis.
