Alexandra Chutskoff of Abbotsford has earned a hockey scholarship to Finlandia University next fall.
Located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Finlandia is an NCAA Division III program and is also part of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) for women’s hockey.
“I’m excited to have Alex join our program,” said Finlandia University women’s hockey coach Heather Reinke. “Her work ethic and character on and off the ice are going to be a great addition to our team. I look forward to developing her hockey skills and give her the tools to be successful off the ice as well.”
Chutskoff, a former Mennonite Educational Institute student, spent the past school year at the Okanagan Hockey Academy in Penticton, participating in its midget female program’s inaugural season in 2010-11.
The 18-year-old forward earned plaudits at OHA for both her academic and athletic performance.
“We are excited for the opportunity she has in front of her next season,” OHA coach Rebecca Russell said of Chutskoff. “The hard work she has put into being a great student athlete has paid off.”
