Creston Wave Swim Club
Over the weekend the Creston Wave held their annual home meet. The Wave had 41 swimmers competing over the weekend, which is the most they’ve had at one meet.
The team had nine swimmers earn individual medals, and finished 3rd in team points. Their best finish yet.
The Wave had six swimmers compete in the Novice 6 & Under category. Lauren Short won all of her races, Mary Whitford swam all best times, Jasper Howatt and James and Liam Oberleitner swam in their first ever meet and finished in the top 6 of every race. Eastin Severtson was the team’s sixth Novice. He finished first in each of the four Novice boys races.
The Wave did amazingly well in the Division 1 category because they had twelve swimmers earning points in Division 1. Ava Webb and Skylah Schiffke both swam excellent times in their 50m Freestyle. Schiffke also finished top four in the 50m Butterfly with Aleena Ziefflie. Ziefflie swam several best times and finished just outside of a medal position. Suzie Whitford also swam several best times and finished top 10 a number of times.
The Division 1 boys all swam impressively as well. Kaine Gauthier moved up from Novice and swam underage and got all best times. Nikolas Oberleitner, Keupper Howatt, and Max Yarschenko all swam in their first meet and swam great races, earning several best times. The other four Division 1 Wave boys, because of some ties in overall points, all won medals. Carter Vanderloos and Alex Hopkins each earned top 3 in a race, and with other strong swims, tied for the Division 1 boys bronze medal. Ethan Pelly finished top 2 in almost all of his races, which allowed him to win the silver medal. Finally, Callum Ziefflie finished first in all of his races to earn him the gold medal. Great job Division 1 boys.
The Division 2 girls also competed well. Sophie Spears, Kaitlyn Comer, Millie Whitford, Alexandra Brown, and Kiffy Thompson competed in this category. All of them swam several best times and were always close to top 10 finishes. Thompson finished top 5 a number of times and finished just outside of a medal position.
Xander Webb swam in the Division 2 boys category. He swam in three events and got a best time in his first meet ever. Connar Schofer, the lone Division 3 boy for the Wave, earned several best times.
Nyla Perry, Nadine Persad, and Natasha Hopkins also competed in Division 3. They each earned several best times, and swam excellently in their relay. Hopkins finished top 8 a number of times in a very competitive division.
Division 4 boys and girls also swam well for the Wave. Sydney Sheck, Maryn Wiens, and Clare Storey all swam several best times. Storey even took off close to 20 seconds in one race. The 3 girls finished top 10 almost every race. Hayden Persad, Caleb Vanderloos, and Jake Wiens were the Division 4 boys. Persad and Vanderloos swam best times in every race and finished top 6 a few times. Wiens finished top 3 in every race and earned the silver medal for the category.
Jeff Roelofse competed in Division 5, and finished top 6 in all of the races he competed in.
Kylee Pemberton, Katelyn Wiens, and Carter Pelly all swam in Division 6. Pemberton swam several best times and finished top 8 in all races. Wiens and Pelly both finished top 3 in all of their races. Wiens earned the bronze medal in the category, while Pelly won gold. Both of the girls also broke the 30 second mark in their 50m Freestyle.
Jeff Webb swam a fast 50m Freestyle and 200m IM in Division 8, which earned him second place for both events.
Coaches Kieran and Emily Simpson both earned silver medals in their categories. Emily’s was in Division 7, while Kieran’s was in Division 8.
The Wave had a very successful home meet. They hope to continue this success when they travel to Colville, WA, on the weekend of July 8th. Good job to all swimmers who competed, congratulations to all those who won medals, and thank you to all parents who came out to support the team.
