Players can make leaps and bounds with their game over an off-season.
Although basketball season has drawn to a close, there will be some hoops camps around the city this spring and summer.
First up is a one-day camp next week put on by Brar Basketball’s Avneet Brar, an assistant coach of the Vancouver Island University Mariners men’s team.
He said with high school gyms closing up, a lot of parents have contacted him lately about off-season basketball.
“A lot of people don’t take full advantage of [off-season workouts] he said. “They’ll maybe go and shoot around without structure.”
His camp is meant to instruct players on ways they can better use that time to improve their game.
The camp will cover shooting, ball handling, rim attack and mindset. The session is for boys and girls in Grades 7-12 and will be held May 13 from 4-8 p.m. at the VIU gym. Brar said the university gym is a good location for a camp because it inspires youths about basketball possibilities.
Cost to register is $50. For more information, please e-mail brarbasketball@gmail.com.
