After months of preparation and years of planning, the Sooke Horseshoe Pitching Club will have its grand opening Saturday (June 4) at its new six-pitch field on Sooke River Road..
Joining the special event is Mayor Maja Tait, as well as councillors Ebony Logins and Brenda Parkinson, accompanied by B.C. Horseshoe Association president Tom Moffat.
The club will kick off the morning at 10:30 a.m. with refreshments and doughnuts, giving the public a first-hand chance to try out the six freshly-completed horseshoe pitches.
“We’re very excited to finally get this off the ground and we invite everyone to join us,” said Rick Hobday, the Sooke club’s president.
Updates to the site are still ongoing, such as the fence around the backside of the property separating it from the trail, as well as an additional six horseshoe pitches expected to be completed sometime next year.
Hobday hopes the club gains enough traction to allow local tournaments between horseshoe pitch clubs from Victoria and across the Island.
The horseshoe pitch field is located at 2250 Sooke River Rd.
