The Quality Foods Oceanside Generals notched another win when they brought down the Comox Valley Glacier Kings 4-1 on the road on Dec. 18.
The Generals improved their record 11-19 and are currently placed seventh overall in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League standings. Prior to the Christmas break, the Generals had one more game against the Westshore Wolves. (Result was not available at press time.)
Against the Glacier Kings, the Generals took a 2-0 lead in the first and added two more goals in the second. The Glacier Kings denied goalie James Brendeland the shutout win when Dayton Keith scored midway in the third. Brendeland wasn’t that busy as he made 15 saves out of the 16 shots he faced. It was his seventh win at the pipes this season.
Meanwhile the date has been set for the annual VIJHL All-Star Game. The league’s elite players will meet in Campbell River on Sunday, Jan. 20 at Campbell River’s Rod Brind’Amour Arena for a 4 p.m. puck drop. The following Sunday, Jan. 27, the VIJHL’s top players will entertain the fans at George Pearkes Arena in Saanich. The puck drops at 3:30 start for the VIJHL Prospects Game.
Last year, five Generals — Landon Dziadyk and Greyson Weme, defenceman Erik Hanus and goalkeepers Jacob Sweet and Spencer Deakin — played in the prospects game with Team North.
The prospects put on a show in Campbell River with Team North edging their southern counterparts 3-2 in overtime. Zach Guerra, Mateo Albinati, Ryan Butler, Jalen Price and Dawson Frank were the goal scorers. Price, who was a game star has since moved on to the WHL Everett Silvertips while Butler is with the SJHL Melville Millionaires.
