Hot night leads to scorching laps at Saratoga

Lawrenuk claims clean sweep in Hornet class; Cam Edward claims first main event in Roadrunner racing

A very hot June night made for some great track conditions on Saturday at Saratoga. The Crash to Pass cars, Roadrunners and the Hornet cars were on the racing card on Saturday with many fans out to watch all the action with Periscope Promotions sponsoring all the fun.

Thirty Hornet cars arrived on Saturday with six heat races given to them, three of which were reverse heats. Some great heat races saw Dwight Bakken, Ashley White, and Kevin Lawrenuk win the first 10-lap heats, with the reverse heats going to Serina Hintz, Rowland Westra, and Lawrenuk, who won both of his heats.

The 25-lap B Main featured a 20-car field that saw a close battle between Westra and White; White would hold off Westra for eight laps, but Westra would find his way around through lap traffic and didn’t look back from there, taking home his fourth main event of the year in a great green-white-chequered race.

Ten cars entered into a 20-lap A main; Glenn White grabbed the lead on lap three and pulled away with Lawrenuk from the pack, but Lawrenuk would not be stopped on this night and took the lead on lap 10 before taking a clean sweep in the A class.

Eight Roadrunners entered into the action on Saturday. Two heats were awarded with point’s leader Ryan Guest taking home both wins. The 15-lap main event saw Guest and Trace Stevenson battle bumper to bumper all 15 laps; Stevenson would hold off Guest for 13 laps until Guest took advantage of lap traffic to get around Stevenson displaying some great driving skills to take home his Fourth straight main event win. After a few altercations over the course of the night, Dennis Leavitt was handed a two-race probation for unsportsmanlike reasons, and also had his points removed for the main event. The Crash to Pass cars put on a great show at Saratoga on Saturday. Their only heat race saw Cam Edward lead all laps to take home the win. Edward would continue his winning ways into the 15 lap main, holding off a hard charging Hopp to take his first main event win of the year.

Extra laps…Next weekend Saratoga welcomes back the Dwarf cars and the Motorcycles to the 2015 season. The Dwarf cars are some of the fastest and nicest looking cars who visit the Speedway, with lap times of 15-17 seconds, they are a must watch class for any race fan. The Motorcycles return to their traditional form this year after running dirt bikes last season. All street and racing bikes are welcome to join the action. Also on the card will be the Hornet cars, Bomber cars and the I.M.C.A Modifieds, with all the action sponsored by Westerra Equipment.
