It has been an impressive few weeks for second year Golden Rockets forward Lane Erickson.
Erickson recently had a four point night against the Chase Heat and scored the game winning goal in a huge win on October 29 versus a strong team from Castlegar.
In regards to the night in Chase Erickson said, “I do not know. I am just getting lucky I guess. I was just in the zone that game. That was a great night,” he said.
The 19-year-old hails from Calgary and came to Golden after Rockets Head Coach Ty Davidson gave him a try out before last season kicked off.
After only tallying nine points in 46 games last year, Erickson already has seven goals and seven assists in the Rockets’ first 15 games this season.
“I am loving it here. It is great. An awesome lifestyle. We used to stop by here on our way to the Shuswap when I was younger but that was about it,” he said.
While growing up a Calgary Flames fan and cheered on his favourite player Jarome Iginla he sees his own style of play in a different manner than his hero.“I like to think of myself as a play maker.”
After the come back win against the Rebels Erickson said, “This is a great sign. The boys battled back real hard today to get us the win. I am definitely looking for that second round this year for sure and then some.”
Being a smaller player in the league has forced Erickson to remember a simple aspect to playing hockey.
“You have to make sure your feet are moving so those big guys don’t take you out. I think I got rocked once there tonight but I got back up and I was all good. I am not that big so I have to keep moving.”
As for his good fortune of late Erickson just hopes the team continues to win and continue to come together.
