It was a dominant year on the hardwood for the Grade 7 boys’ and girls’ CG Howe basketball teams.
The boys’ team, coached by Cham Bains, compiled a perfect record of 17 wins and no losses, including an undefeated run in tournament play.
They took first place in all four tournaments they competed in, including the league finals earlier this month playing against all the local Abbotsford teams and some Surrey and Chilliwack teams.
Jaydan Bains, Tyson Ashton and Ishan Brar were the key contributors for the undefeated squad, and the team will remain intact next year for Grade 8 competition.
The Grade 7 girls’ team, coached by Puneet Buttar, also had a terrific season with only one loss in league play.
The girls placed second in both the W.A. Fraser and the G.W. Graham tournaments, and entered the league championship tournament earlier this month as the second seed.
They were led all year with strong play from Gurman Nigah, Jennifer Menzies, and Sukhman Pandher. The team continued to dominate during the league championship tournament, and defeated the host team Fraser 19-14 in the final to earn top spot.
Both teams wrapped up their seasons earlier this month.
