How’s fishing?

Salmon were happening off Sooke last week. Anglers heading out towards Otter Point were  connecting with some early run chinook. Seawind Fishing Charters landed a 21.5-pounder as well as a couple of high teeners. Weather permitting, fishing for early run chinook off Sooke can be rewarding with fish running up to 25 pounds. Try a little deeper closer to the bottom in 100-120 feet of water with anchovies in glo head, bloody nose or purple haze teaser heads behind a glo green Hot Spot flasher. Remember the slot limit is in effect for wild chinook over 67cm., hatchery fish  with adipose fin removed can be retained with the daily limit of two. East of Sheringham is wide open.  Tickets for the Just For The Halibut Derby which is happening on May14 and 15 can be purchased  at the Crab Shack first prize $7, 000. Until next time.
