Finally anglers will have an opportunity to take a wild coho as of Monday, Oct. 1. With the dry weather we have been having lately there should be some nice ones to be caught. The limit as of Oct. 1 will be one wild and one hatchery per day or two hatchery per day.
Years past, when we had dry weather in the fall, coho fishing was very good til the end of October, with some reaching over 20 pounds.
This coming weekend it’s the Port Renfrew winner-take-all Coho derby. It’s a two day derby with the winner taking home all the money. In the past the pot has been as much as $12,000
For more info contact the Port Renfrew Marina @ 250-483-1878. The Sooke Coho derby is coming up as well on Saturday, Oct. 13. Fishing starts at daybreak with a final weigh-in at Jocks Dock @ 3 p.m. This is a win win derby for the angler, the food bank and the Charters River Salmon Interpretive Centre. Stay tuned next week for more info on the derby. Until next time.
Keep your rod tip up!
