Icebreakers sweep games

The Shuswap Icebreakers played a pair of games in Novice Ringette action this past weekend, and came out victorious in both of them.

The Shuswap Icebreakers played a pair of games in Novice Ringette action this past weekend, and came out victorious in both of them.

Saturday’s game saw the Icebreakers in a tilt against their top rivals.

Vernon took a 5-3 lead into the first intermission, but the Icebreakers exploded for seven goals of their own in the second, for a 10-6 final.

Scoring for the Icebreakers were Mikaela Curdyk (2), Hannah Patterson, Jordyn Turner, Ewan Runciman (3), Ashley Bitz and Cadence Petitclerc-Crosby (2).

Sunday’s game against Kelowna resulted in an 8-4 win for the Icebreakers, punctuated by an exceptional display of passing. Kelowna quickly got out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but the Icebreakers didn’t let the scoreboard get into their heads. Eight unanswered goals saw them with an 8-2 lead with just over four minutes to play. Kelowna would come back with a couple of late ones, but it was too little too late. Final score:  8-4 for the Icebreakers.

Scoring for the Icebreakers were Ashley Bitz (3), Cadence Petitclerc-Crosby, Ewan Runciman (2), Mikaela Curdyk and Kylynn Rosenburg. Teagan Findlay had a notably strong game at defense for the Icebreakers.
