The Comox Valley has entered two 45-and-older teams into the North Island Masters Soccer League, bumping the number of teams to seven.
In their first ‘official’ match Friday at the turf, the Comox 45s beat their Courtenay counterparts 3-0.
Comox came out guns a blazing, and their efforts paid off. Ike Usulu struck first after a goal-mouth scramble in the early stages. The score remained 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Dennis Mirabelli made it 2-0 Comox. Shortly thereafter, Ike ‘the strike’ struck again, all but putting the game out of reach for Comox.
Courtenay generated a few chances as the game wore on, but was unable to beat Comox keeper Jon Bos.
Comox next plays the Nanaimo Masters in a road match Nov. 18, while Courtenay hosts the Nanaimo City masters team.
