The Longhorn Impact grounded North Okanagan United 6-1 Thursday night at Marshall Field #3.
Super striker Lauren Harris scored twice in the opening 15 minutes before switching to defence as the Impact improved to 9-0 atop the North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Masters Division.
Bree Pickett moved up front and quickly connected with a 30-yard volley top cheese to make it 3-0. Roadrunner Edeen Ramsey bagged two goals in the second half, while Derri Ann Cooper came out of the net and buried a nice back-foot flick for the final Impact goal.
Red-hot Shelley Henry scored for NOU (2-4-4), who are playing extra games because they are in the World Masters Games, Aug. 2-11, in Torino, Italy. Henry put a gorgeous shot just under the crossbar. Dana Hornibrook was magic on the Longhorn back line.
In Division 2 play, the Green Rockets proved the Sunterra Custom Homes Sistas don’t change in a phone booth, stopping the Sistas 5-3 at Marshall #2.
Natalie Forster and Leah Willinger supplied goals for the Rockets (5-3).
“The Sistas gave us a run for our money, but Rachel Cross did an amazing job in goal and had numerous great saves,” said Dana Dimmick of the Rockets.
Sam Audley and Karmyn O’Shea sparkled on the Rockets’ defence, while Willinger and Anna Clarke orchestrated the attack.
Sista’s (6-1) poured on the pressure with a great passing game and several shots at the zoned-in Cross. Forster netted the winner with a long blast over everybody’s head, including keeper Susan August.
Angela Otto and daughter Cassandra Otto both kept things exciting for the Sista’s, just missing on a few attempts. Playing especially well for the Sista’s was unselfish forward Deanna Baker, who passed numerous times instead of shooting.
Winger Jenn Currie recorded offensive threats and some defensive plays, while latecomer Miranda Dalhuisen was efficient at sweeper. Andrea Zubot unleashed her trademark big kicks, but Cross had her number all night.
The Avon Lady of the Match for Sunterra was tireless Amy Fitchett.
The OMG Chick Kickers clipped Centerline Attack 2-1 at Marshall #4.
Sarah Kwantes scored on a superb cross for the Attack, whose first-half keeper Azra Cawley did a terrific job challenging shooters inside the 18.
After injuring her ankle, Kwantes finished the game in net and registered a breathtaking acrobatic save on a direct kick.
Defender Megan Mackus was outstanding, while forward Shyla Ladd pushed hard and winger Celine Conely nicely ran the outside.
Meanwhile, Mike Lloyd bagged two goals as Vernon Kal Tire shelled Winfield 5-0 in men’s 50+ action Thursday night at Beasley Park.
Denis Chabot, on a penalty kick, Jim McEwan, ending a lengthy scoring drought, and Longhorn Man of the Match Gord Campbell, also tallied for the Tiremen while ruling the midfield. Roger Irving recorded the shutout.
