Trinity Western’s Sarah Inglis won the annual Western Washington Cross Country Classic for the second year in a row as she led a Spartans women’s side that put four runners in the top 10 en route to capturing first place in the team event.
The race was held on Oct, 11 at Lake Padden Park.
Inglis finished the six kilometre course in a time of 20:52, bettering her winning time from last year by 39 seconds.
After Inglis, TWU’s Fiona Benson finished second overall in 21:17, while Alison Jackson was fifth in 21:37 and Regan Yee was 10th in 21:58.
As a team, the Spartans finished first overall with 58 points, bettering last year’s 80-point third place result. The Spartans beat fellow Canadian universities Simon Fraser, Victoria, UBC and Thompson Rivers.
In the men’s 10 kilometre race, the Spartans Joel De Schiffart was the team’s top finisher, crossing the line in 18th overall with a time of 32:06. Blair Johnston was second amongst TWU runners, finishing 27th in 32:30 while Caleb de Jong was the third Spartan across the line, finishing 31st in 32:36.
The Spartans will now prepare for the B.C. cross-country championships in Abbotsford on Oct. 25.
