Local derby girls will strap on skates and brave the bar track at Ray Ray’s this Saturday night, as the pub and Fire Vixen Tattoos co-host the Invermere Killer Rollbots’ last major fundraiser before their debut bout at the Marysville Arena on August 27.
Members of the all-female derby team will be on hand — and in full gear — throughout the evening on August 20, offering 50-50 tickets, manning the doors and giving fans a chance to learn more about this growing sport in advance of the big game.
To keep things moving, Golden’s roots and folk duo Broken Down Suitcase will be on hand to provide their proven haunting harmonies and melodies that immerse listeners in the dirty depths of music history. Music is expected to start around 9 p.m.
Admission to Ray Ray’s is by donation, and a dollar of the price of each drink sold that evening will go directly to the Rollbots. A silent auction, special shots and other raffle draws are also planned for the night.
Tickets to Sucker Punch — the East Kootenay Roller Derby League’s first bout — are also on sale now.
Come watch the Rollbots take on Cranbrook’s Mountain Town Maulers at 7 p.m. in Marysville on August 27. Fernie’s Avalanche City Roller Girls also square off against Kimberley’s Bavarian Barbarians in a special shortened warm-up bout. The league’s first competitive outing promises a high-energy evening.
Pick up your tickets at The Valley Echo office at 13th Street in Invermere, as well as Fire Vixen Tattoos, the Book Bar and RONA. They’re $10 for adults and $2 for kids 12 and under. For those looking for a ride to the venue, the Rollbots are also offering a special bus ticket to the bout.
Bus tickets are $40 and include game admission, a ride to and from the venue on the Columbia Valley Rockies bus and a drink ticket for those over 19. Bus tickets are available exclusively at The Valley Echo office.
