Mark Isfeld Ice are in first place following the first round of play in the 2013 B.C. High School AAA Golf Championship, being held May 28-29 at Crown Isle Golf Club.
The host team carded a 22-over round of 310 on Tuesday as the players battled gusting winds and occasional drops of rain. Prince of Wales was second at 24-over 312 and Walnut Grove was third at 25-over 313. St. Georges was fourth at 26-over 314, six strokes up on fifth-place Point Grey.
“It’s really tight,” for top spot in the team competition, noted Isfeld athletic director and tournament chair Colin Cunningham.
Logan Yanick led the way for Isfeld, carding a three-over 75 that included one of four first-round eagles – that coming on the 485-yard fifth hole.
Yanick (who won the 150-yard KP contest Monday night as part of the skills competition) was in a five-way tie for fifth place. Jordan Lu (Prince of Wales) was the first-round leader at 4-under 68 after reeling off six birdies.
Isfeld’s Tyson Slater was 15th at 5-over 77, Matt Irvine was in a seven-way tie for 18th at 7-over 79 that included Ice teammate Ryan Snook while Nick Crookall of the Ice was in a two-way tie for 79th after a first-round 17-over 89.
The second round got underway at 8 a.m. Wednesday with a shotgun start. Following completion of play (and playoffs, if needed), the awards will be handed out Wednesday.
