The Isfeld Ice senior boys basketball team ended the week on a high note, hitting a school record 15 threes against provincial top 15 Nanaimo District Secondary on their way to a 76-50 win.
Hank Magdanz hit six treys and totalled 25 points while Davis Malton did not hit a two-point field goal for the game, scoring five threes for 15 points. Noah Kaefer added 21 and Jeppe Madsen scored 11 to round out the double-figure scoring.
Coach Tom Elwood said the key point in the game came early in the first quarter when Kaefer committed his second foul. “The Anthony twins, Brown and Xylinas, stepped up and did a great job defensively to control the much bigger posts on NDSS and allow the Ice to seize control of the game.”
Earlier in the week Isfeld went to Kwalikum for an exhibition game and were, for the first time this year, as cold offensively as their nickname suggests scoring a season-low 45 points. Defensively however in the last 33 minutes of the game the Kondors scored only 11 points as the Ice won 45-22. Magdanz led the team with 13 and Malton hit for 9 (3-for-5 from the three-point line). On Tuesday the Ice hosted Alberni in league play and won convincingly, 70-21. With the score tied 3-3 early in the first quarter the Ice went on a 21-0 run to put the game away.
Isfeld remains unbeaten with a record of 21-0 and has moved up to #3 in the provincial 3A boys rankings.
