Broken clouds on Tuesday, June 18 greeted 19 pros and 81 amateurs who teed it up for the 26th annual Glacier Greens Pro-Am tournament. Each year, the event raises much needed funds for Vancouver Island junior golfers. The format is a five-person team event, with the best two net scores on each hole counting.
After the last putt had dropped and the scores tallied, Crown Isle’s Evan Webber and his team of Ed Hayes, Al Dafoe, Rick Siddall and Bruce Coulter were the winners with a score of – 36. Next at – 32 was Ardmore Golf Club’s Terrance Drader with Brad Scheck, Paul Ives, Brian Richard and Shawn Vincent. At – 31 was Glacier Greens’ own head professional Bill Kelly and his team of Chuck Kennedy, Ken Beachey, Wayne Wood and Len Doyle. Mark Bicknell of Gorge Vale with Ben Shong, Scott Jones, Thomas Trask and Matt Harris were fourth at – 27. And rounding out the top five at – 26 was Victoria Golf Club’s Isaac Weintraup with Ruby Arsenault, Nicole Fraser, Dave and Maureen Mansi.
On the pro side it was Drader with a five under par 66. Tied at 68 was Bicknell and Weintraup. Darcy Dhillion of Acushnet Golf was fourth at 69 and fifth-place went to Kelly with a 71.
Close to the pin prizes were awarded on the par threes.
