West Shore high school basketball returns strong next week when the Division 1 Belmont boys hit the hardwood Tuesday, Feb. 2, hosting Spectrum at 7:30 p.m. On Thursday, Feb. 4, the Belmont boys visit Lambrick Park for a 7:30 p.m. start.
In Div. 2 boys basketball, Royal Bay heads to Reynolds on Tuesday, for a 7:30 game, then the Ravens finish off their week Thursday hosting Parkland at 7:30 p.m.
On the girls’ side, the Royal Bay Senior AA squad visits Parkland Tuesday, Feb. 2 for a 5:45 p.m. start.
The Victoria Grizzlies have an action-filled week beginning tonight (Jan. 29) when the BCHL team heads to Nanaimo for a 7 p.m. puck drop at Frank Crane Arena. Back home Saturday, Jan. 30, the Grizzlies host Alberni Valley at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre.
Come Sunday, the Grizz host a 2 p.m. matinee, welcoming Nanaimo’s Clippers back to The Q. Next up, Thursday, Feb. 4, the Victoria boys host Penticton at 7 p.m. before heading out to Alberni Valley to play the Bulldogs on Friday.
The Westshore Wolves have a much quieter week ahead of them with just two games on the calendar. On Wednesday, Feb. 3 the Wolves host the Nanaimo Buccaneers at The Q Centre at 7 p.m. before finishing their week Saturday, Feb. 6 against the Kerry Park Islanders in Mill Bay. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
In Midget Tier 1 hockey, the Juan de Fuca Grizzlies open playoffs Sunday in Nanaimo with a 3:30 p.m. tilt at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. The Tier 2 Grizzlies face Cowichan Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Fuller Lake Arena while the JdF Tier 3s host the Peninsula Eagles at 3:15 p.m. at The Q Centre that day, then head to Pearkes Recreation Centre for a Sunday game vs. Saanich Tier 3 Braves at 3:50 p.m.
Div. 1 Vancouver Island Soccer League play continues in the West Shore with Westcastle United taking on Gorge FC at 6 p.m. at Westhills Stadium tomorrrow (Jan. 30).
In Lower Island women’s league play, Div. 1 Juan de Fuca visits the Lakehill Reds tonight (Jan. 29) at Braefoot Park for a 6 p.m. kick-off, while Div. 2 Juan de Fuca visits the Div. 2 Reds Sunday at 10 a.m. The field to be determined.
Hit the floor with the Greater Victoria Minor Ball Hockey Association this spring. The registration deadline is this Sunday, Jan. 31 for players ranging in age from five to 18. Prospective players in the Junior division (1997 to 1999-born) are invited to try the sport for free, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. tonight (Friday, Jan. 29) at Eagle Ridge arena. For West Shore families eying the coming Little League Baseball season, registration is coming to a close this weekend for the Layritz and Hampton clubs. West Shore catchment and registration information is available online (layritz.ca or hamptonll.pointstreaksites.com) Both clubhouses are open for signups Jan. 30 and 31, from 1 to 4 p.m. The Layritz clubhouse is at Layritz Park, Hampton clubhouse is on Tillicum Road near Burnside.
Triangle Athletic Association hosts its annual general meeting Eagle Ridge community centre beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1.
