Head to The Q Centre on Sunday night (Oct. 18) to cheer on your Juan de Fuca Grizzlies Midget Tier 1 team when the boys take on the Saanich Braves Tier 1 squad in exhibition play, after returning from a Saturday road trip to Comox. Puck drops at 6:30 p.m.
The Juan de Fuca Tier 2 midget team follows a Saturday visit to Oceanside with a Sunday exhibition game against Sooke at Naden’s Wurtele Arena. Lend your voices in support for the 12:30 p.m. puck drop. The JDF Midget Tier 3 team is at home Saturday, for a 1 p.m. exhibition game against Nanaimo Tier 2 before heading over the Malahat to take on Kerry Park at 1 p.m. in Mill Bay.
League play will get underway for other local rep squads later this month.
In Junior B hockey action, the Westshore Wolves start games next week on Wednesday, Oct. 21 when they host the Comox Valley Glacier Kings at The Q Centre for a 7 p.m. puck drop. Come Friday, Oct. 23, the Wolves travel to Saanich to take on the Braves at 6:30 p.m. at Pearkes Arena.
The Victoria Grizzlies Junior A team has three games on this week’s calendar. Head to the rink tonight, (Friday, Oct. 16) for a 7 p.m. game versus the Powell River Kings at The Q Centre. Cheer on your Grizzlies this Sunday, Oct. 18 as they take on Cowichan Valley at 2 p.m. The boys then head out of town for an Oct. 23 game in Salmon Arm, to start their Interior Division road trip.
In rugby action, the Westshore Velox Valhallians Premier side crosses town Saturday to take on the Castaway Wanderers at Oak Bay’s Windsor Park. Kickoff is 2:45 p.m. Also Saturday, the Div. 1 Valhallians host the UVic Saxons for an exhibition match at 1 p.m. at Juan de Fuca, while the Valkyries women are in Nanaimo to play the Hornets.
In Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association play, the Div. 1 Juan de Fuca squad was scheduled to host Vic West Sunday, Oct. 18 at 12 p.m., however the field was still being determined at press time. Visit liwsa.com for updated information.
High school football starts the week on the road, but finishes in town. The Belmont Bulldogs have a game in Burnaby Lakes today (Oct. 16) against Notre Dame before finishing next week on Friday, Oct. 23 at Westhills Stadium when they play at 5 p.m. against South Delta.
Senior boys’ soccer play continues Tuesday, Oct. 20, when the Royal Bay Ravens cross town to take on St. Andrews high school at 3:30 p.m.
On the volleyball court, senior boys’ play continues Wednesday, Oct. 21 when the Belmont Bulldogs host Spectrum, Mt. Douglas and Pacific Christian. Also on the West Shore, Royal Bay hosts the Reynolds and Claremont senior boys’ volleyball squads. All matches start at 6 p.m.
The city senior girls league is heading toward playoffs, starting Oct. 20, with Belmont in the A pool mix and Royal Bay in the B pool.
Belmont’s two junior girls teams co-host a 16-team volleyball tournament there today and tomorrow, starting with Belmont Blue playing Royal Bay at 11:30 a.m. Friday. The finals go Saturday at 4:40 p.m.
West Shore cross country runners will travel to Saanich next week for a Tuesday, Oct. 20 meet at Beaver Lake. Events start at 3:30 p.m. for the younger runners, with the final event of the day the senior boys race beginning at 4:30 p.m.
In middle school sports, Shoreline’s Grade 7 and 8 boys’ soccer team travels to Lansdowne secondary on Oct. 19 to take on Lansdowne, Glenlyon-Norfolk and North Saanich starting at 3:45 p.m.
