Oak Bay cricket continues this weekend at Windsor Park. The Colts face Metchosin on the local pitch at noon on Saturday, July 22, while the Oak Bay team takes on Shawnigan Lake up Island.
The University of Victoria Cricket Club hosts an exciting fundraiser Aug. 7. The team brings international cricket player and IPL coach Eric Simons to the Beacon Hill Park cricket ground for a three-hour bowling clinic and two-hour seminar.
The clinic runs from 3 to 6 p.m. and the seminar, followed by a question-and-answer session, runs from 7 to 9 p.m. The bowling clinic costs $50 per club (Division 1 only) and each club may send two bowlers. The boys of summer are still cutting up the local diamonds. Beacon Hill Little League, which features players from Oak Bay, hosts this year’s provincial playoffs at Hollywood Park from Saturday, July 22 to Sunday, July 30.
The tourney begins with opening ceremonies Saturday at 1 p.m. before the hosts open their round-robin games against Vancouver East at 3 p.m. Beacon Hill hits the diamond Sunday morning at 10 a.m. against Victoria/Vancouver Island before Monday’s 6 p.m. tilt against Fraser Valley. The team has a bye Tuesday, then faces Vancouver West on Wednesday at 6 p.m., the Kootenays team on Thursday at 6 p.m. and North Shore Friday at 6 p.m. Semi-finals run at noon and 3 p.m. Saturday with the championship game Sunday at noon.
In the big leagues, the Victoria HabrourCats are on the road this weekend, before hosting a three-game stand against the Kelowna Falcons July 25 to 27.
Turning to regional lacrosse, with the end of July comes the end of the Victoria Shamrocks’ regular season. This week the Shamrocks play Burnaby and New Westminster on the road (July 21 and 27) before returning home Friday, July 28 to face the Burnaby Lakers. Head to the Q Centre at 7:30 p.m. for an exciting close to the regular season.
Earlier in the week, Sunday, July 23 has the Junior Shamrocks continuing the first round of their playoff series against the Coquitlam Adanacs. Game 3 will be played in Coquitlam, but the teams return to the Island for Sunday, July 23 to play at 2 p.m. at the Q Centre.
