JOCK TALK: West Shore games to watch

The puck drops on Vancouver Island Junior Hockey action tonight (Oct. 23) at 6:30 p.m., when the Westshore Wolves start their weekend on the road, facing the Saanich Braves at Pearkes Arena.

Take a trip over the Malahat Saturday to cheer on your Wolves in Parksville when the team takes on the Oceanside Generals at 7:30 p.m. The Wolves make their way home to welcome the Nanaimo Buccaneers to The Q Centre Wednesday, Oct. 28, for a 7 p.m. game. The Wolves finish their busy week by travelling to the Saanich Peninsula to take on the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.

After a weekend road trip with three games on the Mainland, the Victoria Grizzlies return to Island to take on Nanaimo in Frank Crane Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 28. But the Grizzlies are back in Victoria the next night, hosting the Powell River Kings at The Q Centre beginning at 7 p.m. The Grizzlies finish a busy week Friday, Oct. 30, when they take on the Cowichan Valley Capitals at home.

In local rugby action, the West-

shore Valhallians Elite Men travel to town to take on the James Bay Elite on Saturday, Oct. 24 at MacDonald Park. Game time is 2:45 p.m.

Senior boys high school soccer continues Tuesday, Oct. 27. In Tier 1, Royal Bay visits St. Michaels University School for a 3:45 p.m. start.

On the volleyball court, senior boys’ play Wednesday, Oct. 28, features Belmont and Royal Bay travelling to Spectrum for games against the host team and Stelly’s Secondary.

West Shore’s middle and high school runners will lace up for this week’s only cross country running event on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Beaver Lake.

The first event begins at 3:30 p.m. with the senior boys finishing up around 4:30 p.m.

On the football field, the Belmont Bulldogs play two games in the coming week, with kick-off today, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. when the Bulldogs host Vancouver College at Bear Mountain field.

On Friday, Oct. 30 the Bulldogs welcome South Delta, again at 5 p.m. at Bear Mountain field.

Turning to baseball, West Shore ball players looking to play on the AAA or Junior Premier field are invited to the Victoria Eagles’ Midget AAA/Junior Premier Open Tryout at Saanich’s Lambrick Park Sunday, Oct. 25.

The Eagles are a regional organization drawing players from across the Capital Region. Players not invited to the second Premier tryout on the Oct. 18 should attend the Midget AAA/Junior Premier Open Tryout. Visit www.victoriaeagles.com for more information.
