Rugby returns to Oak Bay in a big way this weekend.

The Castaway Wanderers premier women open their tilt against Westshore at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8 at Windsor Park, followed by the men’s premier reserve team hosting the UBC Ravens at 1 p.m.

At the premier men’s level, the Castaways welcome the Ravens to Windsor Park for a 2:45 p.m. kick-off.

From campus sports, the University of Victoria Vikes compete in the Canadian Swimming Trials at Commonwealth Place. After opening competition April 6, events continue all weekend through Sunday, April 9.

High school athletes get busy this week.

On the high school rugby pitch, the Oak Bay senior boys rugby B team hosts Edward Milne Tuesday, April 11 at 3:45 p.m. while the Oak Bay A team visits the Belmont senior boys at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, April 13, after the junior squad hosts the junior boys at 2:30 p.m.

Badminton returns Tuesday, April 11 when the Oak Bay team visits Mt. Doug, hitting the court at 3:45 p.m. Play continues Thursday, April 13 when Oak Bay heads to St. Michaels University School at 3:45 p.m.

Senior girls’ soccer also kicks off this week on Tuesday, April 11 when Oak Bay hosts Spectrum at 3:30 p.m. followed by a Thursday, April 13 tilt with Oak Bay hosting Stelly’s at 3:45 p.m. Also on Thursday, April 13, Glenlyon Norfolk School visits Royal Bay for a 3:30 p.m. start.

For Oak Bay ball hockey athletes with their eye on higher-level competition, the Greater Victoria Minor Ball Hockey has added a local Team BC tryout Sunday, April 30 for those born from 1998 to 2003. For more information and to register visit: vmbh.ca.

Premier-level baseball has the regional Victoria Eagles opening play at Lambrick Park with a doubleheader against the Parksville Royals Saturday, April 15 with the first pitches at 12:05 p.m. and 2:35 p.m.
