Glen Jones just may keep that frightening fu manchu his teammates have been razzing him about this season.

The crafty Jones scored once and set up two others as Vernon Kal Tire stuffed the Summerland Rockets 4-1 in Okanagan Men’s 55+ Soccer League play Thursday night at Rose Wood Park in Kelowna.

Jones, a striker whose beard is grey and black, set up Terry Lowe for the winner and fed Jenne Huberts for the 3-1 goal before taking a through ball from Huberts for his own snipe in the dying minutes.

Jones, a Mission youth soccer product, was named the Home Depot Man of the Match with honourable mention going to central fullback Ted Sheehan.

Jim Sparrow passed to central midfielder Gary Dill, who converted a 12-yard corker in the third minute.

Dan Dinsmore of Summerland snuck behind defender Erv Schur and streaked 20 yards before beating keeper Erv Schur early in the second half. Kal Tire is 2-0-1, the Rockets 0-3.

Wolfgang Bopp produced the hat trick as Turn-Key Controls smothered Beasley FC of Lake Country at MacDonald Park.

Mark Wasylyk scored two and Rich Zecchel and Steve McCord earned one apiece. Keeper Al Bensmiler in goal had virtually nothing to do but read Antique Monthly and retrieve the ball after 10-man Beasley FC scored in the final minutes.

Turn-Key is 2-0-1, Beasley 0-3.

North Country Kickers clipped Brandt’s Creek 2-1 in a fiery game called in the second half by a referee tired of the verbal abuse.

Neil MacNeil and Steve Frost tallied for the Kickers, while Kelvin Brown replied off a cheeky corner for the Pubbers.

Meanwhile, Vernon Kal Tire had their scheduled Kelowna Tree Brewing Men’s 35+ Soccer League tilt against Mission Cleaners postponed due to a no-show by the referee.

In women’s Division 2 play Thursday, the OTC Sistas shut down Sir Winston’s Attack 3-0 at Marshall Field.

Attack striker Brandi Wejr had several gripping, near-misses on net and newbie Katie Peplow proved her play-making capabilities in centre midfield. Ashley Stragier held the defensive line, forcing the Sistas to use their patened  controlled passes.

Keeper Azra Cawley kept the score low in the first half and calendar girl Peggy Schepp showed true superstar quality in the second half by saving several sure-fire goals.

In other Division 2 play, Do It Drywall brushed off Collaborate Wellness 5-2.

Olivia Anderson and Amanda Penner supplied goals for the Wellness crew.

Most Sportsmanship Lady of the match for Wellness went to Alana McColm, who played defence and keeper. She battled many shots, including a few breakaways.

Props went to Waverly Vanderveen, who bravely took a turn in net in the opening 40.

The Wellness girls were relieved that Annie Brunelle finally got her earring out and was allowed to play. Rumour had it that there were wrenches and steel cutters involved.
