Jr. Boys hold top spot

The Skeena Jr. boys hosted a play day tournament at Skeena Junior Secondary, Jan. 29.

The Wildcats took on three neighbouring northwest teams and emerged in the top spot.

The first two matches were against Kitimat and New Aiyansh.

The Wildcats beat Aiyansh 69–50, and knocked Kitimat out with a 60-28 victory.

The final game of the day was played against rivals, the Rupert Rainmakers.

Skeena won the match, and the tournament overall, with a 51-40 final score.

According to coach Joe Dominguez, the Jr. Boys team is currently in the top 20 for juniors in the province, and is definitely the team to beat at zones.

“So far the team has not lost a game to any junior team in the north,” Dominguez said.

He adds this includes Prince George as well as teams from the Peace River area.

The Skeena Jr. Boys will head to Kitimat to compete in zones Feb. 18-20.

“The only team that can beat them is themselves, if they don’t play the way I know they can,” Dominguez said, in regards to the upcoming zones.
