So close

If anyone can draw a crowd and significantly raise the noise level in the arena, it’s the Ring of Fire ringette team.    Once again the fans in the stands were brought to their feet as the game came down to another nail-biting finish with Kelowna edging ahead with just 50 seconds left on the clock.

The game highlighted the team’s improvement in playing as a cohesive unit. The team led by three goals to two (thanks to Emilie Petryshen, Kassi Archambault and Brooklynne Agricola) at the end of the first period.

Despite tight defence by Emma Kirkman and  Alexa Hadath, along with superb goalkeeping by Victoria Sirko, the Kelowna team managed to equalize and then edge ahead with under three minutes left on the clock. Not to be beaten, Ring of Fire’s Tori Keehn scored her second goal of the period and evened things up, 5-5, with 1:07 on the clock.  At this point everyone was holding their breath and watching the clock.  Less than 20 seconds later, Kelowna scored the winning goal.

The Ring of Fire team was supported by the efforts of Megan Clark, Jaiden Clifford, Stephanie Martin (first period assist), Marissa Materi and Paige Saitz (second period assist).
