Fire doused
It was a tough weekend for the Ring of Fire ringette team as they lost both their games, despite a strong team effort and good recoveries during the second periods of both games.
Saturday’s game against the Vernon Lightning was quick- paced with Vernon dominating the first period with their speed and impressive passing skills. Despite strong defence from Emilie Petryshen, Alexa Hadath and Emma Kirkman, Vernon led 3-0 at the end of the first.
Ring of Fire had a better second period. Stephanie Martin and Brooklynne Agricola paired up to score the first two goals. Kassi Archambault was strong on offence which led to an assist on Tori Keehn’s goal. Marissa Materi ended the period by scoring her first goal of the season with under two minutes left on the clock.
Agricola and Paige Saitz were also rewarded with assists, while Jaiden Clifford and Megan Clark provided support on defence.
Final score, 6-4 Vernon.
Sunday was déjà vu with Ring of Fire failing to score during the first period despite playing in Kelowna’s defending zone for most of the period. At the end of the first period it was 5-0 Kelowna.
Once again the team came out stronger in the second period with numerous shots on goal. Archambault and Saitz were lucky enough to find the back of the net. Assists came from Tori Keehan and Marissa Materi. Final score, 7-2.
A special mention goes to Victoria Sirko who is doing a great job in goal. The score this past weekend did not reflect the determination and effort the whole team gives every weekend.
This weekend they’re off to Burnaby for the annual Ice Breakers tournament.
