The Ridge Meadows Burrards suffered their first loss of the junior B lacrosse season Saturday, falling 9-8 to the host Burnaby Lakers.
Burnaby pulled out to a 3-2 lead after the first period, and in the second, blew things open with a five-goal frame.
Down 8-5 going into the third, the Burrards managed to outscore the Lakers 3-1, but their comeback attempt fell one goal short. The junior B Burrards are currently in third place in the West Coast Junior Lacrosse League with a 5-1-1 record.
The Maple Ridge Burrards of the B.C. Intermediate A Lacrosse League, fell to the undefeated Richmond Roadrunners Friday at home 7-5. James Baker had a pair of goals to lead the Burrards offence, while Carter Kwast, Joe Olson, and Brad Dolbec each had goals of their own. The Intermediate A Burrards are now 3-3 this season in league play.
The Ridge Meadows Burrards midget girls squad was at the Dorothy Robertson Memorial Tournament in New Westminster last weekend, finishing with a 2-1 record. The Burrards opened the tournament with a 4-2 win over Port Coquitlam in a game that saw Cierra Currin and Sierra LaForge each score twice.
The Burrards won their second game of the tournament, again by a 4-2 score, over Port Moody, with Ellen Harrison, Brittany Irvine, Autumn Meredith and Amber McKeeman each scoring. The Burrards’ final game of the tournament was against the host New Westminster squad, resulting in a 3-0 loss. Game MVP and workhorse awards went to McKeeman and Kiana Henry, respectively.
In tyke and mini-tyke action, a number of players were recognized as MVPs by their respective teams during weekend games, including Tayten Berkey, Grady Nield, Kristofor McManus, Gabriel Smith, Levi Spencer-Fell, Cormac Munro, Blake Hebert, Evan Patrick, Ewen Patrick, Mason Douglas, Karl Chenard, Eric Law, Taylor Pukesh, Brendan Maser, Jaymes Denton, and Luke Kilvert.
