Junior B Wolves battle Braves at The Q

Wednesday night contest features South Division matchup

The Westshore Wolves look to put away the pesky Saanich Braves sooner than last time in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action Wednesday (Dec. 10) in Colwood.

The Wolves (19-11-1) needed overtime to beat the Braves (8-16-0) in their last meeting, Nov. 22 at The Q Centre, but suffered one of their worst defeats of the season to Saanich, 8-2, on Nov. 7.

The Wolves are getting used to life without Nick Guiney, recalled last week by the Victoria Grizzlies. He had 14 goals and 10 assists in 23 games for the Wolves. Replacing that offence has been James Severs, a gritty forward obtained from the Campbell River Storm a couple of weeks ago, who has three goals and eight assists in five games with the Wolves.

Westshore’s win pace has slowed in recent weeks, with the team going 6-6 since the start of November.

Last week saw the South Division’s second-place Wolves drop a 5-2 decision to Kerry Park in Mill Bay on Saturday, following a 4-3 win in Peninsula and a 6-3 home loss to Campbell River on Dec. 3.
