The Langley Junior Blaze and North Delta Junior Blue Jays traded one-run victories as they split a doubleheader.

The Blue Jays won 9-8 in game one with the Blaze responding to take game two by a score of 6-5 for the split on Saturday at North Delta’s Mackie Park.

Langley improved to 7-2 and sits in second place in the B.C. Junior Premier Baseball League standings.

Both games looked like they were heading for extra innings before the winning run was scored in the final inning.

In game two, the teams were tied at six entering the seventh inning. But Brendan Winning drew a walk and then advanced to third on a Blue Jays error. Daniel Martin then scored him on an RBI single.

Justin Lanigan would retire the side in the bottom of the seventh.

Langley had led the game 5-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth but the Jays struck for four runs to tie things up.

Michel Saulter led the Blaze offence with two RBIs while Trevor Alcos had a RBI double and Mack Berry and Daniel Martin each had RBI singles.

The first game saw the Blaze score twice in the top of the seventh to tie the score only to see North Delta plate the winning run in their half of the inning.

Lanigan and Martin led the offence with a pair of RBIs apiece while Terrell Rogers, Saulter and Berry had an RBI each. Winning scored three runs and hit a pair of doubles.

Colby Ring struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three runs but earned the no-decision.

Langley is back in action on Friday in Coquitlam against the Redlegs before hosting the Whalley Junior Chiefs on Saturday and the Abbotsford Junior Cardinals on Sunday.
