Junior Cardinals slide into fourth

The Abbotsford Junior Cardinals faced three games in five days, culminating in a commanding 12-1 victory over the White Rock Junior Tritons, Wednesday night.

Brett Bass and Cade Smith both tallied three RBIs off three hits on three at-bats for the Cardinals. The team helped themselves to fourteen hits and scored at least a run in every inning.

Josh Froese pitched a strong game for Abbotsford. Through four innings he kept White Rock off the scoresheet, securing three strikeouts and allowing just two hits.

The Junior Cards split their doubleheader against the North Shore Junior Twins, on Saturday, losing the first game 4-1.

Abbotsford managed just five hits against Junior Twins pitcher Robert Mackie, who struck out four through five innings.

The lone Cardinals run was batted in by Robert Bradley, allowing Aiden McDonald to score in the fourth.

In the second game, the Junior Cards bounced back with a tight 9-7 win in what was a back-and-forth match where the lead was traded six times.

After just two runs through four, the Junior Cards exploded in the fifth for a five-run inning which put them up 7-5 going into the sixth.

The advantage grew to four runs, and the Junior Cards allowed North Shore just two in the seventh.

Nick Graham secured the win for Abbotsford after coming in as relief and allowing three runs over three innings pitched.

The Junior Cards slid into fourth place with these two wins, bumping White Rock down to fifth. They have seven games left in the season, three of which are at home.

Abbotsford next face the North Delta Junior Blue Jays in a doubleheader, Sunday July 19.
