The Salmon Arm Secondary Junior Golds started the week with a 35-31 league game win at Kalamalka. The Golds led the entire game, but had to hold off a late game rally from the Lakers to preserve the victory. Dan Schager paced Salmon Arm with 11 points, Josh Szoke added eight.
The Golds faced the Similkameen Sparks in their opening game at the St. Ann tournament on Friday. Some clutch free throw shooting by Dilan Duscharme helped Salmon Arm pull off a 40-37 win. Schager hit for eight points, while game star Szoke had seven.
Next up for the Golds were the NorKam Saints. Salmon Arm outscored the Saints 10-5 in overtime for the win, 48-45. Schager continued to lead the Golds and was named game star, scoring 20 points. Jordan Goertzen chipped in with 11.
The hot shooting Kelowna Christian proved to be too much for the Golds in the final and cruised to a 53-24 win. Salmon Arm got down early, and could not recover. Game star Goertzen hit for eight points, and Eric Borthistle had six.
