Junior golfers take to Redstone

Junior golf results from Redstone Resort in Rossland.

 

The weather was perfect, but the scores were all fairly high this past Saturday at Redstone Resort in Rossland.  Twenty eight juniors teed it up in an event that doubled as the qualifier for the summer games. In the end 14 year old Braden McKay of RTCC took first overall.  Braden played consistent golf all day and came through the front nine with the lowest score of any player.  He managed to keep his ball in play most of the day and his three over par back nine was still good enough to hold on and win.  This was his first ever overall Junior Circuit win.

The BC Summer games allows players age 16 and under to try and qualify, provided they have not played the summer games tournament before.  In the qualifying tournament Carson Arcuri (Granite Point), Ryan Fullerton (RTCC), Trevor Browell (Champion Lake), and Shawn Ellard (Kaslo) all earned spots.  Shawn actually defeated Aiden Browell in a play off to earn the fourth spot.

In the age categories MacKenzie Field of Christina Lake took first in the 17 -18 division and Alex Rugg and Garrett Underwood tied for second.  Tyler McKay, was first in the 15-16 year division, Ryan Fullerton placed 2nd and Trevor Browell was 3rd.  In the 14 and under division, Carson Arcuri tool first, Jackson Konkin (RTCC was second with a very solid 88 and Aiden Browell placed 3rd.

In the net division Shawn Ellard was first overall in the 15-18 and Jeff Ashton from Castlegar was first in the 14 and under division.  Aiden Browell from Champion Lake and Ryan Page from RTCC both won closest to the pin, and Jeff Ashton and David Launier won long drives in their respective divisions.
