Junior golfers winning on tour

A pair of local golfers were among the leaders in a field of more than 70 who took part in the Maple Leaf Junior Tour event at Swan-e-Set Bay Resort in Pitt Meadows over the weekend.

In the girls division, 13-year old Tiffany Kong shot 78-74 (152) to win by four strokes over second-place finishers Annie Songeun Lee, 18, of Surrey (80-76-156) and Cecile Kwon, 14, of Maple Ridge, (76-80-156).

“Cecile and Annie are great competitors and golfers – it was a very close competition.” said Kong. “This is my first MJT win and I feel very proud of myself.”

In the junior boys division Ryan Hunt, 19, finished fourth, shooting 76-77-153. It was won by Coquitlam’s Shayne LaRochelle, who shot 148.

Alex Park of Vancouver won the Juvenile Boys (age 15-16) title with scores of 80-73-153.

Isaac Lee, 14, of Coquitlam and a Swan-e-Set member, won the bantam boys class, shooting 74-76-150.

Hunt was the winner of the skills competition in his age class, while Lee won the bantam boys skills event. Daniel Hyun, a Swan-e-Set member from Langley, won the juvenile boys long drive competition.
