100 Mile Wranglers Junior B hockey club jerseys arrived this week and people can expect to see them on the backs of club executive members Rick Takagi, left, Crystal-Dawn Langton, Tom Bachynski and Greg Aiken, as they continue their efforts to have 350 season tickets spoken for by Jan. 14.

The reality of a Junior B hockey team in 100 Mile House gets stronger each day, as more and more people commit to buy season tickets for 2012/13 cycle.

In order to qualify to obtain a team, the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) governors have given the 100 Mile House Wranglers Junior B Hockey Club Society until Jan. 14 to gather 350 commitments from the community to purchase season tickets.

The call for commitments came Nov. 29, and as of Dec. 13, a total of  123 commitments have been made, and Wranglers Society president Tom Bachynski says he is feeling confident they’ll collect enough to satisfy their obligation.

All of the commitments so far have come in through Facebook, and Bachynski realizes there is still a huge demographic yet untapped.

“One thing we haven’t got is the older age group that might not be familiar with social media.”

During the next few weeks, therefore, society members will be out in the community, wearing Wranglers jerseys, connecting with people face-to-face. Bachynski says they’ll have tables set up in the Cariboo Mall, the South Cariboo Rec. Centre and other heavy traffic areas to collect names for the commitment list.

“I think we will gain some momentum soon,” he says, adding league reps suggested the society would be lucky if it collected 100 commitments.

There are no immediate financial obligations to those who commit to purchasing season tickets, but in April, people should be prepared to receive a call and a request from the society to honour their promise.

People can add their name to the list by visiting the Wranglers Facebook page on the Internet and they can also call The Wolf radio station at 250-395-3848 or the South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce at 250-395-6124.
