It’s getting to that time of year again: crunch time.
With the trade deadline looming, the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League clubs will decide whether they’re contenders or pretenders. Too many times, the Nanaimo Timbermen junior A club has traded away top players at this time of year so that they may seek their fortunes with Minto Cup-calibre clubs.
“Big week ahead of us,” said Dave Bremner, coach and general manager of Nanaimo’s juniors. “We’ve got to win Thursday night.”
Thursday (June 23) the Timbermen (5-9) visit the Langley Thunder (5-10) in the Fraser Valley. It’s the rubber match of the season series, so serious playoff positioning is at stake.
“We’ve got to pull our socks up and going into Langley on Thursday, we’ve got to win that series,” said Kyle Hofer, alternate captain on the junior T-men.
“Every game’s a playoff game right now, that’s how we’re looking at it.”
GAME ON … The junior A Timbermen are also in action Sunday, when they visit the Coquitlam Adanacs (15-0). The T-men fell 13-11 to the Adanacs last Sunday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. The next home game for the junior Timbermen is July 3.
