Kabush off to world championships

Leads Canadian men's MTB cross-country team into action in Austria

Cross-country mountain bike cyclist Geoff Kabush of Courtenay is once again crossing countries to compete in a high-calibre event.

Fresh from posting Canada’s best-ever Olympic result in men’s mountain bike (finishing eighth in London, England at the 2012 Summer Games), Kabush will be leading the Canadian men’s team into action at the 2012 UCI Mountain Bike and Trial World Championships, Sept. 8-9 in Saalfelden, Austria.

Joining Kabush on the men’s cross-country team are Derek Zandstra (Trenton, Ont.), Raphael Gagne (Quebec, Que.) and Cameron Jette (Toronto, Ont.). They are part of a 39-cyclist Canadian contingent, 15 of whom will be participating in the downhill category, Sept. 1-2 in Leogang, Austria.

2012 Olympian Max Plaxton (Victoria, B.C.) has elected not to compete at this year’s cross-country championship due to injury. Downhill rider Rob Fraser (Pickering, Ont.) is also recovering from injury and will not attend this year’s event.
