The Vernon Liquor Store Screamin’ Eagles were one win away from a spot in the Boston Pizza 3-on-3 Pond Hockey League final Tuesday night at Okanagan Training Rink.
Standing in their way were the Willms Electric Whalers, who iced Pinnacle Pellet 20-13 in a Monday showdown of the double-knockout tourney.
The Pinnacles’ advanced scouting report failed to pick up on the Whalers’ Bryce Kakoske, who recorded 12 goals and two assists. Nigel Barker, Chris Robinson, Erik Locke and Gord (Hoon) Cochrane each added deuces in support of Rodger Sewell.
Laird Fawcett (4), Corey Massie (3), Philip Klein (3), Steve Clark (2) and Tyler Usselman answered for the Pellet crew.
The Eagles pulled out a thrilling 12-11 shootout win over Vernon Battery to stay in the A Bracket Thursday night at OTR.
League scoring leader Tim Proctor and Landon Neary scored for the Eagles in the shootout, while Malcolm McPhee had one for the Battery boys.
Big Brad Wick scored a hat trick, and Proctor netted a pair, in regulation. Brad Jones, with three goals, and McPhee, Justin Mitchell and Brett Williams, each with a deuce, were Vernon Battery’s main threats.
Eagles’ netminder James Lemay was Luongo-esque in the second half.
In B Bracket action Tuesday night, Vernon Battery faced the Extreme Pita Puckers, and Dinoflex tangled with the Pinnacle.
The winner of the Puckers-Battery game will face the loser of the Eagles-Whalers tilt tonight (8:30)at OTR.
The championship game goes Monday at 6 p.m.
