A superb third period wasn’t enough to erase a sluggish start by Armstrong Shamrocks Wednesday night at Kamloops Memorial Arena.
Trailing the host Rattlers 7-0 after one period, the Rocks closed the gap before falling 9-6 in the Thompson Okanagan Senior Lacrosse League showdown.
Armstrong starter Brett Logan gave up goals on the 4-1 Rattlers’ first four shots, and was quickly relieved by Chad Pieper.
With Chad Pounder, Hans Van Dursen and Shaun Koenig serving suspensions, the 1-5 Shamrocks played with 13 runners.
Milan Marcetta led the attack with three goals, with singles coming from Steve Clark, Brennan Plante and Jamie Cockerill. The ageless Pat Nelson chipped in with four assists.
Said Armstrong head coach Glenn (Stumpy) Mitchell: “We came out asleep in the first, however we made some adjustments in between periods, and played a good second period, and I think we played our best period of the year in the third.”
Former Shamrock AJ Lockwood paced the Rattler attack with 2+4, while Mark Jurista and Riley Donahue each chipped in with 2+3, Rylan Derose had a pair and Travis Joseph scored once.
The Shamrocks host the 3-2 Kelowna Raiders tonight (7:30) at the Nor-Val Sports Centre.
