Kelowna gymnasts tune up for season at Cobweb Invitational

Okanagan Gymnastics Centre hosts annual event with 100 athletes taking part

The Okanagan Gymnastics Centre launched the new competitive season by hosting the annual Cobweb Invitational last weekend, with about 100 gymnasts taking part.

In the Level 3 Junior category, Miah Denis took the top spot all around after winning the uneven bars and floor exercise.  Teagan Murray finished in second place overall after a silver on the vault and a bronze on the bars. Thea Elma finished third all around in her first competition after finishing second on balance beam and floor exercise and earning bronze on the vault.  Natalia Simeunovic was first on the vault and balance beam. Sydney Ortynski won silver on the uneven bars and bronze on the balance beam.

Juneia Danis and Piper Campo tied for the gold on vault, while Ava Gray earned bronze on the floor.

In the Level 3 Senior category, Sydney Harmata was first overall after winning the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.  She also finished second on vault.

Kahlia Kadziolka earned silver all around after finishing in second place on the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.  She also earned bronze on the vault.  Kate Levinsen won bronze on floor exercise and all around.

In the Level 6 Junior category, Mackenzie Carroll took the top spot all around in her first competition after winning the balance beam and floor exercise.  She also finished in second on the uneven bars.  Alexsandra Malchyk finished in second all around after finishing second on the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.  Naomi Schraeder finished third all around after winning the vault and finishing in third on the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.  Hailey Pritchard earned first on the uneven bars and a third place on the vault.

In the Level 6 Senior category, Hayley Zandee finished in third all around after winning the uneven bars and finishing third on the vault.

In Level 7, Kenedi Woodcox finished in first overall after winning the balance beam and vault.  She also earned a third place on the uneven bars.  Kayleigh Nicolson was first place on the bars, third place on floor exercise and in the all around.  Taylor Bowden won a silver medal on the vault, while Danica Graves finished with second on the balance beam.

In Level 8, Yvonne Wood took home the all around title after winning the balance beam, second on floor and third on the uneven bars.  Regina Abedrop took gold on the vault and floor exercise, a third place on balance beam and in the all around.  Grace Akurienne earned a gold medal finish on the uneven bars while Grace Driver finished with a silver on vault and a bronze on floor.

Jenna Mick was the only competitor in the Level 9 category, but showed all of her routines as she prepares for the upcoming competitive season.

In the Pre-Novice Aspire category, Amanda Jaggard took first in the all around after earning gold on the uneven bars and balance beam.  She finished third on vault and floor exercise. Kamryn Greenhalgh finished second all around after earning gold on floor and silvers on vault, uneven bars and balance beam.  Samantha Pelletier finished third all around after winning the vault, finishing second on floor exercise and third on the uneven bars and balance beam.

In the National Novice category, Lucia Jakab took the top spot over teammate, Gabriela Beselt. These two girls were competing this weekend to help them prepare for their upcoming competition next weekend where the girls are trying to qualify to Elite Canada which will be held in Trois Rivieres, Quebec.

 

Okanagan Gymnastics hosted its first Interclub competition this year where 32 young ladies showed their routines earning them either a “bronze”, “silver” or “gold” on each event.  The ten young ladies competing for Okanagan Gymnastics Centre are Austyn Banister, Haley Jaggard, Ava Schraeder, Cviyeta Dokic-Pulice, Katjana Geismayr, Ainsley Macdonald, Jordan Carson, Alishia Macland, Alayna Butler, and Taylor Schultz.
