Kelowna gymnasts win all around titles

Four athletes from Okanagan Gymnastics Centre take their respective titles at annual Ogopogo competition at UBC Okanagan

The Okanagan Gymnastics Centre hosted another successful Ogopogo competition with 330 athletes from all over B.C. and Alberta last weekend.

It was the final competition for the gymnasts as the competitive season wrapped up on their home turf.

Four Okanagan gymnasts finished the weekend as the all around champion in their category with Grace Driver, Gabriela Beselt, Vanessa Bulcock, and Kolten Marino placing first in their respective divisions.

In the National Open category, Alison Watters finished in third place all around. She also earned a silver medal on the balance beam and two bronze medals on the vault and uneven bars. Lindy Drope finished with two silver medals in the same category for her performance on the vault and floor exercise.

Jenna Mick competed in the level 4 Tyro category and won gold on the vault and a silver medal on the floor exercise.

Brooke Murray earned a bronze all around finish in the Level 4 Novice category. She also earned a bronze medal on the uneven bars and on the floor exercise and earned a silver medal on the balance beam. Hannah Butcher finished with a silver medal on the vault and uneven bars.

In the Level 2 Tyro 2001 category, Vanessa Bulcock took gold in the all around. She also earned gold on the uneven bars and a silver medal on the vault. Braelyn Dillon tied for the silver medal on the vault and also earned a bronze medal on the floor exercise and in the all around.  Danica Graves finished with a bronze medal on the balance beam.

In the Level 2 Tyro 2000 category, Kelly Dolgopol finished with a gold medal on the uneven bars and a bronze medal on the floor exercise.

In the Level 2 Argo 2002, Grace Driver finished in first place all around. Driver won the balance beam and finished with a bronze medal on the floor exercise. Ellen Smith finished with silver in the all around. Smith also earned a gold medal on the floor exercise, and a silver medal on the balance beam. Yvonne Wood finished with a silver medal on the vault and a bronze medal in the all around.

In the Level 2 Argo 2003/04 category, Gabriela Beselt finished with the gold in the all around. Beselt earned gold on the uneven bars and balance beam and earned silver on the vault and floor exercise.

In the level 1 Argo 2003/04 category, Jillian Beaudreau finished with a bronze medal in the all around. She also earned a silver medal on vault and a gold medal on the floor exercise. Lucia Jakab finished with a bronze on vault and silver on uneven bars. Beatrice Goyette earned a silver medal on the floor exercise.

OGC had eight young gymnasts compete in the Women’s Pre-Argo competition which is a developmental program. These athletes included, Chelsea Ozechowski, Kayleigh Nicolson, Makena Marble, Devon Fraser, Kenedi Woodcox, Payton Schell, Aspen Appelt, Emily Buckmaster.

In the Men’s Artistic competition, Kolten Marino cleaned up in the Level 4 competition. Marino finished with gold all around and on five of six events: Floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, and high bar. Shane Hiscock finished with silver in the all around and on the rings.  Hiscock also won the parallel bars and earned bronze medals on the floor and pommel horse.

In the Level 3 category, Jase Goerzen earned silver on rings and a bronze medal on the high bar.  Lucas Fabian finished with a silver medal on the floor exercise.

In the Men’s Level 1 category, Cameron McMahon and Brady Clegg both competed in the developmental program.
