Kelowna Karate and Fitness Inc on top at provincials

Local dojo wins 16 medals at B.C. championships in Chilliwack

Members of Kelowna Karate and Fitness Inc were in top form at the B.C. Karate championships May 30 in Chilliwack.

The local school finished first overall with 16 medals—nine gold, four silver and three bronze.

The winners were:

Paul Atkin- Gold Kata, Gold Kumite

Kai Stackhouse- Gold Kata, Gold Kumite

Maya Slauson- Gold Kata, Gold Kumite

Justin Lavigne- Gold Kata, Gold Kumite

Larry Davidoff-Gold Kumite, Silver Kata, Bronze Kata

Tyson Cragg- Silver Kumite, Bronze Kata

Liam Friesen- Bronze Kumite, 4th in Kata

Moto Kimura- Silver Kumite

Shayne Friesen-Silver Kumite

“Our athletes have been working incredibly hard towards this event, and their determination to be successful really is apparent in their personalities,” said Paul Atkin, owner and head instructor of Kelowna Karate and Fitness Inc.

“It’s a great joy for me their instructor to see them get awarded for their efforts. It was quite an exciting event and our students were definitely feeling confident in their technique that day.”
